Trump says Zelenskyy ready for peace, agreement on minerals and security
Washington: US President Donald Trump has revealed that he received a letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressing Ukraine’s readiness to negotiate for peace. Speaking before Congress on Tuesday, Trump shared that Zelenskyy also expressed willingness to sign an agreement on minerals and security.
Signals from Russia
Trump stated that his administration has had serious discussions with Russia and received strong indications that Moscow is open to peace talks. He called for an end to the ongoing conflict, labelling the war as "senseless" and urging both sides to engage in dialogue.
Clash with US Leadership
Zelenskyy’s letter comes after a heated exchange with US President and Vice President JD Vance at the White House last week. The verbal clash, witnessed by officials and media personnel, highlighted tensions between Ukrainian leadership and the US administration over the ongoing war.
Trump Criticises War Spending
Trump criticised the financial burden of US aid to Ukraine, stating that billions had been spent without adequate security measures. He pointed out that Europe had spent more on Russian energy than on Ukraine’s defence, questioning the long-term sustainability of the US financial commitment.
Middle East and Abraham Accords
Shifting focus to the Middle East, Trump mentioned efforts to bring back American hostages from Gaza. He recalled the success of the Abraham Accords during his first term and expressed intentions to build on the agreement for a more stable region.
